‘Surfing with mates’
My good friend & surfing buddy had left me. Moving to a place for the next five years far away from the barrel as I can imagine……Canada! I can only imagine the withdrawals he went through over all those years. Poor guy!
The time finally passed & on his return Brad & his lovely family stayed with us in Sydney for a week before they were to move on to there new home up in sunny Queensland. We both knew we would finally get some waves together but never imagined how good the week of waves would be.
Our first session delivered a nice & easy 2-3ft swell with sunny skies & offshore winds. A perfect surf for Brad after been dry for the last 60 long months….Every day that followed for the next week would add another foot & more consequence. We surfed a different break each day with each session been better than the last with sunny skies above us. We couldn’t believe our luck.
The final day we named ‘Bomb Thursday’ as we scored 8ft perfect clean waves with barrels & open faces galore at my home break Dee Why. Also being a week day there were only a handful of surfers out. Just when we thought our last session couldn’t get any better a pod of dolphins appeared & joined our magic session. As much as I enjoyed the awesome waves, the dolphins & was having an all time session, the most joy I was getting was watching the smile on Brads face each time he padded back out after a wave. We certainly were blessed & it was a week of surfing that I think both of us we never forget.
Nothing like surfing with mates!
Damn right, best waves in years
